Professor, Organizational, Leadership, Policy, and Development

My research focuses on K-12 STEM teaching and learning and international education issues in the contexts of underrepresented and Indigenous groups in the United States and Nepal. I specifically explore how science teaching and learning could be made exciting and accessible to students and pose questions of social justice, equity, history, gender, race and racism, culture, and the environment in which students live in. Therefore, I personally and collaboratively ask questions about the epistemologies of science, nature of science, and participation and non-participation in science by individuals and groups to understand better how science (STEM) areas could be made more relevant to students and their communities. In the proposed interdisciplinary course, I engage in how science, STEM in general, is influenced by social, political, cultural, and historical decisions and processes in the disparities that we see and experience now and how we can question them for a better future outcomes.
