Muhammad Khalifa

Dept of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development

Khalifa's research focuses on how school leadership and structures can be culturally responsive.  He examines how school leaders institutionalize four basic areas of anti-oppressive areas of culturally responsive schooling: critical self-reflection, curriculum and instruction, overall school climate, and community engagement.  Khalifa's scholarship and teaching have emphasized how schools and communities can work together for student and community empowerment.  To this course, he brings a deep understanding of school structures, policies, and reforms that impact schooling for minoritized youth.  His work in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development is useful because it will connect schools with broader societal trends, and will help students understand the systemic nature of achievement gaps.
