Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences
Tim Johnson, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Minnesota. His research program has two areas of emphasis: 1) understanding the dissemination of antibiotic resistance in enteric bacteria, and 2) identifying alternatives to antibiotics in poultry. He uses genomics and microbiome-based studies to guide translational work aimed at providing real-life solutions to problems faced in human health and animal agriculture.
Dr. Johnson has teaching effort in general microbiology and the molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases. He also has an extension appointment aimed at providing scientific outreach to the next generation of scientists in rural Minnesota and the Minnesota poultry industry.
