Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology
Jim Kurle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Minnesota. He has a BA in Biology from Dartmouth College and a PhD in Plant Pathology from the University of Minnesota.
He conducted postdoctoral research at the Univ. of Wisconsin into management of soybean diseases using cultural practices and varietal resistance. He has conducted research into the management and control of diseases of soybean using chemical controls, cultural practices, and plant disease resistance. His research emphasizes identification of new sources of resistance to soybean diseases found in Minnesota, disease management strategies to slow the breakdown of varietal resistance to plant disease, and practices that prevent development of resistance to chemicals applied to control plant disease.
His most recent research investigated the failure of soybean resistance genes caused by changes in pathogenicity of the soybean pathogen, Phytophthora sojae, with use of resistant soybean varieties.
