Rob Gradoville

Lecturer

A problem-solver at heart trained as an engineer, Rob recently co-taught the UMN PA 5743 Social Innovation Design Lab in January 2020 through the Humphrey School. Previous to that he spent over four years as Senior Portfolio Manager for the Amplify program with non-profit design firm IDEO.org. The Amplify program oversaw social innovation competitions and selected and supported dozens of startup social enterprises with seed funding and tailored design support. Throughout those years he ran week-long design and innovation workshops from SF to Nairobi to Kampala and Dhaka, and mentored startup founders as they launched new programs. Previous to IDEO.org Rob spent time working with Water.org responding to the global clean water & sanitation crisis, with Engineers Without Borders, as a Fulbright Fellow in Peru, and as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic.

Rob has lived and worked across five continents, is bilingual English/Spanish, and very happy to be settling down here in MN. He holds an MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, and post-graduate credentials in microfinance and environmental management from Frankfurt University and Loughborough University, respectively. An avid backpacker and recent thru-hiker of both the Superior Hiking Trail and the Appalachian Trail, in his free time you can find him exploring the outdoors somewhere with his wife and dog.
